For families considering cochlear implants, one of the most important factors is whether or not the company will be able to provide continued support and technology throughout the recipient’s lifetime. That’s why Cochlear’s lifetime guarantee to help recipients “Hear now. And always” is so important.

Meet Michael, a recipient whose Cochlear Implants are allowing him to pursue his education and career with no boundaries.

Michael was about 3 months old when his parents began to notice that he wasn’t reacting to loud stimuli. He was diagnosed with hearing loss and fitted with hearing aids, but after a while they no longer provided him access to the sounds he needed.

“When (the doctors) made the recommendation for a cochlear implant and we had seen that he wasn’t able to continue wearing hearing aids in a way that would benefit him, we were pretty convinced that that was the route to go,” said Michael’s mother, Sherilyn.

The surgery was successful, and Michael was able to grow up within a world of sound. Now, as he plans to attend Tufts University to study political science and join the University’s golf team, he said his Cochlear Implants continue to help him on his journey.

“I talk on the phone with my friends all the time,” he said. “I actually had a phone interview with one of the golf coaches, and I think that’s pretty profound coming from a deaf person saying that, ‘I had a 45-minute interview with a golf coach for college.’”

Michael’s mother said that as a parent, she values Cochlear’s commitment to help her son “Hear now. And always”.

“One of the things that we really liked about Cochlear to begin with, and one of the reasons we chose that device for Michael for his cochlear implant, was their longevity and how long the company had been committed to making sure that once someone was involved with their device, it was a lifetime commitment,” she said.

“I’ve never seen another company treat the people they do business with as family,” she added.
