Jack-Barnes-300x223Jack Barnes lost his hearing at 11 years old due to meningitis. With the support and love of his family, he received his first Nucleus® Cochlear Implant in 1988.  He attended school in a mainstream classroom and even enrolled in Spanish classes. Jack graduated Valedictorian in 1995 and went on to graduate from The University of Arizona with dual summa cum laude bachelors’ degrees in Economics and Spanish. Jack will tell you, extraordinary results are possible for those who are willing to work for them. Here Jack shares his experience with Cochlear’s latest technology, the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor.

“I love the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor. Combined with True Wireless and the Aqua+, it opens up communication possibilities that have never before existed.

The sound processor’s slim form factor, light weight, long battery life, advanced sound processing algorithms, wireless accessories, wireless remote control, and exceptional build quality and moisture resistance combine to create an exceptional and unique experience for me that is far superior to earlier sound processors.

True Wireless is a killer feature in the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor. The Wireless Remote Control is very clear and straightforward. I personally find it very useful changing sound processor settings and confirming the device is on the settings I want. This also helps me test out different settings to measure my performance and determine the best settings in different listening environments.

The Wireless Accessories themselves powerfully distinguish the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor from all predecessors. My experience with music and speaking on the phone using the Phone Clip is amazing. I can be in the noisiest environments and easily carry on telephone conversations with the Phone Clip. I can also exercise (run, lift weights, etc.) while listening to music with a joy and ease never before possible. By far, I use the Phone Clip the most and have found it very effective for conducting conference calls at work, listening to music, etc. I hear and understand better with the Phone Clip than I do by pressing my ear to a handset receiver.

Jack Barnes 2I also really enjoy the Mini Microphone. I’ve experienced personal relationship breakthroughs with my wife as a result of the Mini Microphone’s ability to create communication possibilities in situations which were formerly impossible, such as speaking with my wife while I wash dishes, carrying a conversation while driving the car (and keeping my eyes on the road), and so much more.

I am thrilled with my hearing with the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor and the True Wireless Accessories.”
