Cochlear’s commitment to help you “Hear now. And always” does not end when you receive your first processor. As technology advances, Cochlear continues to innovate and develop new processors to enhance your hearing experience with positive upgrade experiences throughout your lifetime.

Meet Jennifer, a Nucleus® 7 recipient who found that upgrading her sound processor made it easier than ever to hear the sounds that matter to her most.

Jennifer was born with hearing loss and wore hearing aids throughout grade school and college. However, by 2010, her hearing had decreased to the point where she had almost no sound comprehension. She decided to pursue a Cochlear™ Implant and she received the Nucleus® 5 processor in 2010.

Last fall, Jennifer found out about the Nucleus 7 processor and began to research online how to start the upgrade process. She set up an appointment with her audiologist and was soon contacted by a Cochlear representative who offered to help her with the paperwork.

“The ball was rolling,” she said. “It was a pretty quick process, actually.”

By December 2017, Jennifer had received the Nucleus 7 processor. She said her new processor is light, comfortable, and more powerful than ever before.

“The processor is definitely comfortable, and very light— you barely know it’s there,” she said.

Jennifer said the biggest advantage of her new processor is being able to stay wirelessly connected.

“I have the iPhone® 7, and the Nucleus 7 processor works great with it,” she said. “It’s nice to be able to take phone calls and be able to Facetime® with the sound going directly to my processor… it’s life-changing.”

She said it has made a difference in how she uses her phone on a day-to-day basis.

“I never listened to music before because it was so cumbersome to set it up,” she said. “Now I listen to it all the time.”

She also appreciates how the Nucleus 7 SmartSound® iQ* with SCAN automatically changes the processor’s settings to match the sound environment.

“It’s the best it’s ever been,” Jennifer said. “Before I just had separate programs for separate settings, but this one automatically adjusts.”

Jennifer said she recommends the Nucleus 7 processor to anyone looking to connect their hearing experience with their smartphone. She said people shouldn’t be afraid of taking the first step toward better sound.

“It’s been a great experience,” she said. “I feel like some people may be hesitant because they think it’s going to be a long, cumbersome process. It depends on your insurance, but it’s really not that scary. Cochlear was great at explaining things and walking me through the process.”
