Cochlear is launching a new blog series I choose Cochlear, which will focus on the personal stories of audiologists who are also recipients as well as families of Nucleus® and Baha® recipients.

As an audiologist, you may never experience hearing loss personally, although you help diagnose and treat hearing loss every day. What if you could hear directly from someone who is both an audiologist and an implant recipient? Katie Farnsworth is an audiologist (Au.D., CCC-A) in Illinois, who wore hearing aids for 26 years. Katie was recently implanted with a Nucleus cochlear implant in her right ear and will have her new CI activated this month!

Mark Campbell-Foster, Au.D., CCC-A, F-AAA, is a bilateral Nucleus recipient and an audiologist with Cochlear Americas. On a recent island vacation, Mark lost his Nucleus® 7 sound processor in the ocean only to find it a few days later thanks to an underwater metal detector. His use of the Aqua+ meant Mark’s Nucleus 7 sound processor was still working!

It would be hard to imagine hearing the words “Your child has profound bilateral hearing loss” once in a day, much less twice. Brandy Harvey is the mother of two bilateral Nucleus CI recipients – hear from Brandy about the day her son was diagnosed with hearing loss and how her audiologist then discovered that her older daughter also needed cochlear implants.

Are you or someone you know a Nucleus recipient who would like to share your story with the Audiology community? Reach out today and email: sashburn-reed@cochlear.com. Please stay tuned to the ProNews Blog to learn more from Brandy, Katie and Mark and to hear why they chose Cochlear.

Nucleus 7 with Aqua+ is water resistant to level IP68 of the International Standard IEC60529. This water protection rating means that the sound processor with the Aqua+ can be continuously submerged under water to a depth of 3 meters (9 feet and 9 inches) for up to 2 hours. This water protection only applies when you use a Cochlear Standard Rechargable Battery Module or Cochlear Compact Rechargable Battery Module.
